Dive into the heart of Abionic, a medtech and biotech company facing the challenges of innovation, growth, and investment. This entrepreneurial journey is the subject of a case study co-written by a researcher at the School of Management Fribourg.
The International Journal of Case Studies in Management (IJCSM) has published a new educational case study co-authored by Lucia Zurkinden, research associate at the School of Management Fribourg. This case study focuses on Abionic, an off-shoot of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) specializing in health technologies, founded in 2010 by Nicolas Durand and Iwan Märki. The company, which received the Swiss MedTech of the Year 2023 award, among others, provides rapid point-of-care diagnostic tests.
In this case study, students step into the shoes of the company's CEO, who must make a difficult decision – should they accept investment offers or wait to stabilize the company and increase its value? How should the situation be handled to develop this science-based company into a financially sustainable organization? Did they make the right decision?
Ordering educational case studies requires payment. The Abionic case is available in English.
